Signs you need this repair
- The door bumps or catches at the same spot every time
- You can see dents, flattened spots or a bent rail in the track
- Worn rollers have cut a groove into the aluminum
- The door hops off the track or leans as it slides
- New rollers didn't fully fix the problem
The bottom track is the rail your door’s rollers ride on. It’s usually aluminum, it sits right at floor level, and it takes a beating from foot traffic, furniture, pets, pool gear and the occasional dolly. Once the rail is dented, bent or grooved, the door will catch at the same spot every time, no matter how good the rollers are.
How we fix damaged tracks
- Clean and inspect. We vacuum out packed sand and debris and look closely at the rail along its full length.
- Straighten minor dents and bends where the aluminum allows it.
- Cap the track when the rail is worn or grooved. A track cap fits over the existing rail and gives the rollers a smooth new surface, without tearing out the frame or flooring.
- Replace rollers if needed. A worn track and worn rollers usually go together. Putting new rollers on a damaged track (or the reverse) only fixes half the problem, so we check both and quote what’s needed.
- Adjust and test so the panel rides level and the lock lines up.
Why fix the track now
A damaged track wears out new rollers quickly and makes the door harder to lock securely. It can also let a door jump the rail, which is a safety hazard with a heavy glass panel. A track repair is typically far less disruptive and costly than replacing the entire door system.

Track repair: common questions
Do I need a whole new door if the track is damaged?
Usually not. Most track damage can be repaired or covered with a replacement track cap that gives the rollers a smooth new surface, without removing the door frame. We'll tell you honestly if a door is past repair.
What causes sliding door track damage?
The most common causes are worn rollers grinding into the rail, something heavy rolled or dropped onto the track (furniture, dollies, pool equipment), and grit packed into the track over time. Corrosion near pools and the coast can also weaken older aluminum tracks.
How can I keep my track in good shape?
Vacuum the track regularly to remove sand and grit, don't roll heavy items across it, and get the rollers replaced when the door starts feeling heavy. A door with healthy rollers is much easier on the track.
